Home Workout Space Shopping List
Since most of us are using our homes for exercise more than we used to, here is a list of things that might make your workout space a little more functional.
Mat
You don’t need a mat to be sticky, like you might for yoga, although that kind will work too. You just need a mat for padding so when you are rolling over your spine, or putting weight on your hands and knees, you don’t feel the hard floor underneath you.

Yoga Block
These blocks are great— you can use them to elevate your hips while seated, to train shoulder girdle strength and alignment, and a myriad of other ways.

Foam Roller
A foam roller is for more than just rolling out tired or sore muscles, although it’s a must-have for that. You can also adapt it to many Pilates exercises to increase range and mobility.

Theraband
A 5-foot long stretchy band can assist in stretching, but can also be used for resistance training and take the place of the Pilates springs in some situations. Any tension will do.

Green Stretch-Out Strap
This strap is fantastic for when you need support but you don’t want the stretchiness of a theraband. Loops are located throughout the length of the strap for a variety of options in placing your hands or feet through.

Hand Weights
In Pilates, hand weights of 1lb, 2lb, or 3lb size are sufficient. It is up to you whether you use the barbell shape or a weighted ball— whatever feels best in your hand.

Ankle Weights
Ankle weights can take the place of the strap when you need your legs to remain grounded. They can also provide support and resistance when trying to access your deep hip muscles. A 5-lb pair should be sufficiently heavy.
Overball
This soft 9” ball can be inflated to your preference for placement under your hips, ribs, or head. When not on the mat, this little ball can go with you on long road trips as a lumbar support.
